People who don't understand they mistakenly believe the West Island extends westward from Montreal. It is actually the West Island includes everything westward from that city Lachine. It is often cited as being the place of birth for Amanda Brugel but while that may be true, her time there was short. Brugel grew in Courtice close to Oshawa. The first goal she had was to pursue a career as an actress however, after a rapid increase in size, her friends were no longer able to dance with her. She admitted in an article that was published in the Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall and wears heels. When I surpassed any male partner, I stopped. Numerous former dancers choose to become actors. In Brugel's case it was because of the advice by her drama instructor at her high school which pushed her to take the step she wanted. Her teacher invited her to take part in an audition in a school production. The teacher who suggested that she pursue a part the school's annual production. The show was granted a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to go to York University's Theatre Program which she completed in 2000 with a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts. Through the years since, Brugel has landed roles on over 60 shows on both small and large screens. She attracted the most interest when she was offered the role of Rita on the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below).
